Strategic Procurement Manager

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Procurement Manager to play a key role in both the strategic sourcing of suppliers and materials within a complex, engineering-led environment supporting critical capability delivery.

This position will see you take ownership of end-to-end sourcing activities — from hands-on procurement of make-to-order items through to developing supplier strategy and managing vendor performance across a global supply chain.

Responsibilities of your new role

  • Manage sourcing and procurement activities for make-to-order materials and components, ensuring alignment with production requirements.
  • Analyse engineering drawings, specifications, and Bills of Materials to support RFQs and supplier selection.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, both locally and internationally.
  • Drive supplier performance, including lead times, quality, and delivery, and act as an escalation point for vendor issues.
  • Contribute to the development and execution of sourcing strategies to improve supply chain efficiency and resilience.
  • Work closely with production planning teams to ensure stock levels and supply timelines meet operational requirements.
  • Monitor and negotiate vendor lead times, updating systems and stakeholders accordingly.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across procurement, supplier management, and supply chain processes.
  • Utilise ERP/MRP systems for quotation management, purchasing, and vendor performance tracking.

Skills & Experience

  • Extensive experience in sourcing and procurement within a manufacturing, engineering, or technical environment.
  • Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings and Bills of Materials.
  • Proven experience managing both operational procurement and strategic supplier relationships.
  • Experience working with ERP and MRP systems.
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to negotiate and manage supplier performance.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • Supply Chain, Engineering, Manufacturing or related qualification.
  • APICS (CSCP/CPIM) and/or CIPS qualifications highly regarded.
  • Must be an Australian Citizen with the ability to obtain a Defence Security Clearance.
